Stampless folded cover dated inside Montreal 24 April, 1786 addr to HONORABLE SAMUEL HOLLAND, Surveyor General at Quebec, rated "9" (currency - for distance 101-200 miles). On reverse has a VF complete 2-line MONTREAL APRIL: 24 datestamp (R. LOWE HS-24a, RF 'E' - RARE). This is a nice historical cover - Samuel Holland joined the British Army in 1756 & served during the SEVEN YEARS WAR. He was with GENERAL WOLFE when he died on the Plains of Abraham. Holland was later appointed the first Surveyor General of British North America. He mapped British possessions of what was to become Prince Edward Island, Magdalen & other areas. VF.
